It's true, Mary Street Bakery is my favourite place for breakfast. Maybe its my soft spot for Beaufort Street, or perhaps its because you can order gnocchi and icy pops before noon. I always find myself torn between two dishes, so I do what any sensible person would do in my position … I order both and the waitstaff pretty much give me a 'hell yeah' high five. Maybe its this total acceptance and applauding of overordering that keeps me going back.
DO | HIGH TEA WITH ROCHELLE ADONIS
Rochelle Adonis Cakes + Confections has carved a reputation as Perth's go to for High Tea. The perfect spot to celebration with gal pals or host a hen's party.
EAT | MARY STREET BAKERY (Highgate, WA)
Is it right to eat dessert at breakfast? Mary Street Bakery's head chef Courtney Gibb is forever pushing the breakfast boundaries and turning the boring ol' hour of eggs on toast and bircher on its head. Our ensemble had the air of a decadent evening meal but was happily consumed with coffee before the clock struck 10am.
A luxe way to start the weekend with favourite friends Ai-Ling of Food Endeavours of the Blue Apocalypse, Custard & Co's hustler Caitlyn (also of Mixed Dozen) and Stacey Clark Stylist. We spent the hours talking shiny new diaries, pop up dining adventures with Custard & Co that will soon fill up our calendars and all the wonders that inspire us about embracing the clean slate that is the new year. Fuelled by salted caramel, candied bacon and caffeine we went on our merry way clutching our Custard & Co Family Xmas ciders.
Love you girls xo

We idle way those quiet times escaping into the screen, forever scrolling our way to early RSI. Some are searching for inspiration, whilst others are the curators, who share breathtaking moments of wonder captured in that small square frame. Instagram has fast become the epicentre of fashion, design, culture and dreams.
Perth is just bursting with creative folk many of whom have become a little Insta-famous. Without these people amongst us, who else would be colouring not just our world, but our local communities and circles with their inspiration and talent.
For the past year I have been blessed to get to know, work with and become wonderful friends with Stacey Clark. Not only is Stacey a bundle of talent, but she is a pocket rocket full of laughter and all things bright. Stacey is one of those lucky few, living her dream of connecting creatives all over.
On a lovely Spring evening, Stacey Clark and Instagram maven Bec Tougas joined forces to curate Perth's first Instameet. A perfect night for the flourishing community to get together, have fun and swoon.

St Michael 6003
Culinary magic is bound to happen when the owners of two of Perth’s best restaurants join forces. St Michael 6003 is the love child of Red Cabbage's Scott & Hazel O'Sullivan and Petite Mort's Todd Stuart with talented chef Adam Sayles in the kitchen.
It was the end of an era when Jacksons closed its doors but now newbie St Michael 6003 has taken up residence on Beaufort Street.
St Michael 6003 uses a small plate approach where diners mix and match each dish creating their own degustation. This was our first experience and it was so good, we went back.
MARY STREET BAKERY
Mary Street Bakery: a whitewashed fairy-land of artisan breads and baked treats.
Mary Street Bakery is the latest addition to the ‘hood from the community driven boys behind Cantina 663, el PUBLICO and Ace Pizza. It’s neon pink sign luring you into their latest sweet love affair. A great lazy stag horn droops down over soothingly bare walls. Pretty mosaics add texture and the timber features dotted with greenery breathe in the supple lights. Mary Street Bakery oozes effortless detail … Soto who?

Mary Street Bakery
Did someone say bread? Actually, make that artisan bread.
Mary Street Bakery will soon be dominating your newsfeed as everyone scrambles to try the latest offering from the food gods of Beaufort Street. The only thing you will be sacrificing is your waistline as you tuck into baked goodies, breads, donuts and other tasty morsels. But don't worry you can gulp it all down with their cold pressed juice and simply wash your sins away.
I am still yet to fit in a breakfast or brunch with friends and Mary Street Bakery is definitely on my eating agenda this week. So in the meantime here are some snaps from a week or two ago. They sure know how to throw an house warming with guests leaving laden with freshly baked goods. Happy opening guys!
Clarences
If you walked past Clarences during daylight you would hardly notice all the good things going on in this inviting neighbourhood bar. By night, the windows are glowing from the candlelit tables, each corner bustling and the leafy courtyard alive. Throngs of people patiently wait in line to lap up local pleasures. Although I do love the buzz of Clarences by night, it is the quieter days that I love the most. Those times when it is easy to find a cozy nook to sample the wonders of the bar and delights from the kitchen.
Our friends counting down the days until their adventure to explore the wonders of Barcelona, London, Paris and beyond. Lucky them! Lazy Sunday farewell drinks in the comfortable surrounds of Clarences was the perfect choice.
Still a little full from breakfast at The Precinct, I ceremoniously bid farewell to my morning meal with an Amaro Montenegro 'the liqueur of the virtues' on the rocks. There is something about this Italian bitters that brings a smile and flush to my cheeks especially during Winter.
Amidst the copious rounds of drinks to celebrate our wandering friends we ordered a bunch of share style plates for the table:
Pork ribs - deliciously sticky with the meat easily pulling away from the bone.
Queso fundido with toritlla chips - a mini spiced mexican fondue
Chicken wings and chipotle sauce - crispy yet tender with smoky sauce
Chewy cheese buns - Clarences take on the popular cheesey puffs loved by Brazil
Hot chips - who doesn't love hot chips on a rainy afternoon?
Arancini - a safe and delicious staple on the small goods menu
Oh Clarences, I have missed you.

Fast Fridays
Sometimes you just want to eat and run to the next bar for drinks. It was Friday, this was the case.
Clarence's
Oink Oink
el PÚBLICO is bringing a whole lot of humble hog to the streets of Highgate on Tuesday, 31 July. The menu includes: - cheese and sausage fondue - "mexican subway" - antijitos of lesser known parts - quesadilla's and all the regulars - sunday roast with the trimmings - not so classic ice cream spider
Five Bar
Five Bar has had a subtle facelift with the launch of a new menu and chalkboard scribblings on Tuesday. I was pleased to see the steak tartare still available to be happily consumed with the double chocolate stout.

Cantina 663
The first of my food endeavours with the Blue Apocalypse. This momentus occasion deserved a trip to Cantina and it was as if they knew we were coming. When we locked eyes with the cheesy toast, mushroom puree, walnut, slow cooked egg with new season manjimup black truffle that was it. Dreamy ...

Crust
I must be growing up (old). Rather than partying on through the night after Creamfields I opted for a post festival Saturday night in with pizza, red wine and a movie. I stopped off at Crust Mt Lawley owned by my lovely friend Foodie Cravings and her burgerboy. I ordered the Supreme and Pesto Chicken ahead and fought every demon to not open the box before I got home. I always start with just one slice of each, before I know it I am three slices in, then its bed time and we have eaten every morsel and swear to eat salad tomorrow. This is a perfect Saturday night.
Five Bar
As the days get cooler and the rain starts to fall, spicier beers are a little more seductive. My bf had a hankering for Innis & Gunn rum cask that we had tried at the Around the World beer tasting last year. It went so well with the Reuben Sandwich and Steak Tartare.
I found the spider chart on the Innis & Gunn website.
Tan Po Po
Every time I eat here I say OH BLESS. I think we all fondly remember eating at the old location. The little arcade, with the outdated magazines and five little tables. I always want to get up and clear all the tables for them and get their new site organised. Its still damn tasty and easy on your pennies so all is always forgiven. I just love the staff and especially the owner .. oh bless!
Daily Planet
It is always too long between ... ummm breakfasts with Liz. When we catch up its always amaze! Liz has her own blog Breakfast in Perth and is getting pretty famous now! Very exciting that she is taking her writing to the next level under the wing of Rob Broadfield for the Good Food Guide. AMAZING! So proud! We spent the morning pondering food, friends, reminiscing on Teknoscape days and Perth Dance Music Awards. I eat so healthy at home and at work ... its the dining out where I tend to be extravagant. For the average person that is fine. That is what life is about ... every now and then going out and spoiling yourself. BUT my butt has been expanding due to the fact that I eat out a hell a lot more than your average Joanne.
I ordered the vegan stack. Not something I would usually order but I just felt like having salad for breakfast seeing as my cold has stopped me from sweating out in the hot room. Caitlin (best barista and full of fun) informed they were out of avocado but had added honeyed parsnip. Naturally the chickpea fritter was a little dry but the aioli and juiciness of the tomatoes made up for it. The parsnip was definitely a welcome addition and the verde added freshness. So nice to walk away from breky not in a carb coma!
I thought the food was really reasonably priced and it was so damn good to order a Caitlin again. Free wifi is always a plus too! Don't read all the urban goon reviews until you have made up your own mind.
Vegan Stack ~ chickpea fritter, field mushrooms, avocado, slow roasted tomatoes, salsa verde and tofu aioli Mex Eggs ~ scrambled eggs with green pepper and tomato salsa, smoked bacon, corn relish sour cream and jalapenos wrapped in a flour tortilla
THE CAITLIN: ristretto, honey, ice + a red haired barista These bad boys have gotten me through many many meetings.
Bored with your breakfast? Then you simply must check out Liz's blog.
