TALKING EAT DRINK PERTH (whilst wearing drop crotch pants)

Guest User March 25, 2015

We're back for 2015!

Last year Ai-Ling Truong (aka the Blue Apocalypse) and I started a little segment called The Food Alternative.  It airs each Tuesday at 6pm on RTRFM 92.1 during Drivetime with Simon and Anth.  Those guys basically drink beer and interview our guests whilst we do the hard yards ... researching potential stories, eating a lot (for research yeah?) and unearthing Perth's best kept secrets to share with you.

We focus on WA's awesome foodie scene where great eats, drinks and passion meet and we love it! So far we have 37 episodes under our belts all of which you can find right right here.

Every now and then Ai-Ling or myself will jump on air and this week I spoke with Simon and Anth about Eat Drink Perth.  If you missed Episode #37 you're forgiven as I am sure you were just in the toilet or something.  But never fear as you can jump online and listen to our restream.

Here is a link to all the great events I mentioned:

  • Get your bao on at Night Noodle Markets
  • Experience the magic of a long table dinner curated by the talented Stacey Clark Stylist at the The Creatives - Autumn long table dinner this Saturday, 28 March
  • Support local at Small Batched this Sunday at Whipper Snapper Distillery this Sunday.  A whiskey and food festival featuring new comers The Bao Bar, Beersine, Sue Lewis Chocolatier, Fervor, The Little Cheese Shop and more
  • Learn how to cook the perfect steak at Meat Me In the City's meat masterclass
  • Food Truck Rumble created by my co-producer Ai-Ling on Sunday, 12 April

Comida do Sul

Brazilian truckers

Guest User December 20, 2013

I am loving this food truck frenzy that is hitting the streets of Perth, hopefully as fervent as that Mexican epidemic.  Comida Do Sul is absolutely infectious, every detail and inch breathes a cool, laid back personality reminiscent of a true street vendor.

We found this little piece of Brazilian heaven at the Twilight Hawker's Markets on a Friday evening.  Wedged between trucks of sweet goodness, Comida Do Sul, was dishing up flavours of Brazil.

Praito feito is an essential part of Brazilian cuisine, its literal translation being "composed plate".  A plate composed of rice, beans, meat, french fries and salad, in the motherland you can also find an egg or two slipped in.

Another regular on the menu is the Choripán, served throughout South America, hot dog style, in a mix of ways with varying meats and toppings.  In Brazil you would eat this as a casual meal, a pork sausage wrapped up in French bread and washed down with a icy, cold beer. Here at Comida Do Sul you will enjoy your choripán Argentinian style with homemade mayo, tomato salsa and a good lashing of chimichurri.

The Coxinha is South America's answer to Italy's arancini or Spain's croquetas. A ball of some of my favourite things; dough, potato and tasty shredded chicken filling formed into a chicken thigh shape and deep fried.   I can imagine having a coxinha fix off many a  street cart whilst on holidays.

For your dose of Brazilian make sure you hunt down Comida Do Sul on their Facebook page, you might even find them popping up on a street near you.

Night one in Melbourne and straight to @etta_melbourne for another hit of @rosheen_’s cooking.
This many dumplings (but actually x 3) 🥟🥟🥟Yum cha with the fam at The Wang’s Treasure House in Morley.
@tosakaramen is all about tori paitan ramen. A rich, wholesome chicken broth, bubbling away for 10 hours. Each bowl whisked to its signature foamy cloud top with a stick blender.

It was the most satisfying, can’t-stop-thinking-about-it, bowl o
